Ni hao!

Hey again! ("Ni-hao" is Chinese for "hello," in case you were confused!)

As I mentioned in my last blog entry, CMOM's current traveling exhibit "Children of Hangzhou: Connecting With China" is still going on until the end of May. Every Saturday, we'll be having crafts, games, and other fun stuff that will give us a peek at Chinese culture. This Saturday (April 28), we're having some very special guests: The University of Memphis's Confucius Institute will be doing a great demonstration including calligraphy, paper cutting, and Beijing opera masks. They have also graciously agreed to come back in April for a special Chinese dancing show. We are so thankful to this group for taking the time to share some unique aspects of Chinese culture! Make sure you don't miss either of these great events (dance show date TBA soon).

An extra little side note: CMOM is excited to welcome "Magic Tree House: The Musical" to the Memphis's Orpheum Theatre. Borrowed from the Orpheum's website: "Jack and Annie take center stage in this enchanting blend new musical based on Mary Pope Osborne's series. To restore joy and magic to King Arthur's kingdom, the team must get water from the Cauldron of Memory and Imagination. If they fail, Camelot will be lost, and the Magic Tree House destroyed." Show dates:
Fri, Mar 27, 2009 6:00 PM
Sat, Mar 28, 2009 1:00 PM (mat.) / 6:00 PM (eve.)
Tickets are on sale now!

Friday the 13th

BOO! (Ok, I realize it’s March, but I miss Halloween…give me a break!)

I’m Lauren, and I’m the most recent addition to the CMOM Program Staff—that means I’m definitely giving Lonski a run for her money when it comes to the museum’s most awesome employee (just kidding…or am I?)! I’m super excited to be a part of this place—I remember loving CMOM as a kiddo myself, and being back in Memphis after a 3-year adventure in New York City, I’m thrilled to return to Tennessee as part of the best Children’s Museum ever! I promise to do my best keeping “y’all” (oh, how I’ve miss using such a great Southern word!) updated on CMOM’s latest programs and events.

CMOM's current traveling exhibit, "Children of Hangzhou: Connecting With China" (open through May 31) is an awesome way for kids and adults to learn about both traditional and modern Chinese culture through the eyes of 4 children living in Hangzhou. Every Saturday, I'll meet all you guys for a hands-on activity (think fun crafts or traditional games played by Chinese children) in our "China & You" program. Check out CMOM's website for even more information on all the cool stuff you can discover in this super exhibit. (http://www.cmom.com/?q=traveling) But hurry! It's only here until the end of May!

Come celebrate St. Patty's Day tomorrow (Saturday, March 14) the authentic way with our guest visitors--traditional Irish dancers! They'll be performing in the Malco at 1pm- you definitely don't want to miss it!

Don't forget to check out the online Calendar of Events (http://www.cmom.com/?q=Calendar) to keep up with all the fun stuff we're doing here at CMOM! See ya soon!
